February 2023

February 1, 2023

February is Black History Month.
How I look forward to the day when there is just history, not ‘Women’s history’ or Black History’ or ‘LGBTQ history’ or ‘Mexican-American history,’ et. al . However; we know that all histories are biased; written in the context and from the point of view of the men in power, so until we reach that great day where no human has dominion over another, nor tries to repress , marginalize or redefine the experiences and triumphs of another, I celebrate this month with all my heart, by quoting some people of history who have made my life better by sharing theirs: Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Maya Angelou, Zora Neale Hurston, and bell hooks.
Happy month of Love.

The light of someone else’s love can coax your soul out into the open air.  Likewise, the power of loving another soul can make you forget all your fear, so that light is all you need.

This is my worldview. God is all love, and all love is—literally—God. Therefore when I give my love into this world in word, action, thought, or prayer, I embody that love of God, and have the power to transform any situation in which I find myself. Force and manipulation can never transform anything…only push it around from place to place.

This lesson is so under-taught in our society, especially to girls, who are taught that to be rescued and cherished is the greatest prize. The truth is, to find the strength and power of love within is to rescue and cherish yourself—then you will meet love on equal footing. For love never incurs debt nor gives with expectation of return.

Love demands everything from us. We learn that we cannot hold back if we are to truly love. Yet, love gives freely of itself in return; we can never be diminished by loving. ~ Rev Mel
